Our Board and Management Team
Joanne Hindle joined the Holmesdale Board in May 2016 and was appointed as Chairman in July 2016. She is a lawyer by background and has worked in financial services in a variety of roles for 30 years. Her last executive role was as an executive director for 8 years for a major disability insurer. For the last 8 years, she has had a portfolio career including chairing Shepherds Friendly Society and acting as a legal advisor to part of the AXA Group.
Dean became Finance Director of the Society in November 2017. Dean has over 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry and has worked in a number of senior roles in the UK and internationally with a particular focus on corporate finance and treasury. Dean is a qualified accountant, a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and an alumnus of the Harvard Business School. He was previously the Finance Director of the Teachers Building Society and prior to that was the Treasurer of the International Banking Division of the Royal Bank of Scotland plc. Dean is a strong advocate of mutuality and believes that the Society is uniquely placed to offer excellent service and value to its Members as well as having an important place in its local community.
is a Chartered Accountant living in Epsom, Surrey and is a partner in Kingston Smith LLP Chartered Accountants, a top 20 accountancy firm, and is based at their Redhill office. Keith trained with Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young), a top 4 practice, and has been a partner in the Chartered Accountancy profession for over 20 years. He specialises in family financial planning and tax planning for a wide variety of individuals and owner-managed businesses. He joined the Board in February 2005. Keith is Chairman of the Society’s Risk and Compliance Committee.
Malcolm is a chartered accountant with his early development at Coopers & Lybrand in the UK and Australia. Subsequently, his career as Chief Auditor at National Australia Bank, NatWest and Barclays lead to senior roles in risk and compliance. He has wide experience as an interim executive in financial services and was Head of Audit for a small City bank. Focused solely on his non-executive roles, he is Chair of the Audit Committee at CAF Bank, owned by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), and a member of CAF's Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee. He joined our Board in September 2017.
Mike McDermott joined the Holmesdale Board in October 2015 and was appointed Chairman of the Assets, Liabilities and Management Committee. He undertook the role of Interim Chairman of the Board between January and July 2016. He has worked in senior management roles with small building societies for more than thirty years including twelve years as Chief Executive of a building society. More recently, Mike has provided support to a number of building societies and other financial services firms and currently provides business advice and support to small and medium sized enterprises.
Mark has had a career of over 30 years in financial services and until December 2016 was Chief Executive of British Friendly Society. Prior to this, he was Director of Partnerships at Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society and before that had a long career with Lloyds TSB Group. Mark is now concentrating on having a number of non-exec roles and these include roles at Direct Life and Pensions and the Jockey Club Racecourses Committee. He is also a strategic adviser to LGT Vestra and a Governor at Kings School Ely. He joined the Board in August 2017.
Jan joined the Holmesdale Board in May 2016. She is a Strategy, Marketing and Customer Services specialist with extensive experience in the financial services sector at Board level. For the last 17 years, she has run her own strategic marketing consultancy working for a wide range of clients. Jan is a Non-Executive Director at Which? Financial Services and the Council for Licenced Conveyancers. She is also a Trustee and Council member at AQA. Jan was previously Vice Chairman/Senior Independent Director at a top 30 building society and has held other non-executive roles.
