Why the Holmesdale?

Local. Mutual. Established.

Taking its name from the Vale of Holmesdale, a narrow valley that runs all the way from Guildford to Folkestone, it was founded by local land agent Thomas Buckland in 1855, making it one of the UK’s longest-established building societies. Located in the historic town of Reigate, Surrey, the Holmesdale Building Society is one of the oldest businesses in the area.

Over 160 years later, our modern branch occupies the original site in Church Street, at the entrance to Reigate town centre, from where we continue to welcome local customers looking to buy their own home or make their savings grow. We also recognise our role in the community by supporting a number of local clubs and charities through sponsorship and other funding models.
